BECOMING A MARINE

To maintain its reputation as the nation’s legendary fighting force, the USMC sets high standards for new recruits. Young aspiring marines should try to be high achievers in both physical and mental tests. High scores on standardized tests are just as important as the ability to do push-ups. Anyone who wants to join the Corps must also meet general eligibility criteria, including age (only those 18 to 28 may enlist), criminal history (no one convicted of a major crime may enlist), and substance abuse (no one who fails a drug test may enlist).
